Developed through collaboration between the Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia, the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre, and SIA Sprayify, LumiClean bridges cutting-edge materials science with real-world usability.

Technology
LumiClean combines advanced antimicrobial materials with optical sensing to create a visible layer of hygiene. Unlike traditional cleaning methods or standard antimicrobial coatings, LumiClean not only protects surfaces — it shows when protection is active.
The Science Behind It
Traditional cleaning methods provide only short-term protection and no feedback on surface hygiene.
Conventional antimicrobial coatings extend this protection but remain passive — users cannot tell when the coating wears off or stops working.
LumiClean introduces a breakthrough dual-mode system:
1️⃣ Bulk luminescence – under UV light, the coating emits a subtle glow, confirming its presence and coverage on the surface.
2️⃣ Surface chemiluminescence – the coating reacts with a special luminol-based reagent, emitting light that correlates with its active biocidal performance.
This intelligent optical feedback enables real-time monitoring, long-lasting protection, and data-driven hygiene control — bridging the gap between cleaning and continuous safety.
